UK Lottery
sara asked:

I recieve daily e mails from the UK lottery and Euromillions. Apparently I win 4 or five of their drawings every week. I would be a multibillionaire if i responded. The UK lottery web site has no contact info. All of these emails list different contact people even though they’re supposedly from the same place. So when I block the address it does no good. The next day I get the same e mail only from a different person. Has anyone else had this problem??? If so, how did you resolve it??

It’s spam. Just put it in your junk mail… block it… if you respond or try to unsubscribe, they will sell your email address to other spams!

Mr. Wiseguy on 25 October, 2008 at 11:19 am #

it’s a scam. my gf got one of these.

My suggestion is this:

I have a personal email, and a spam email. I only give my personal email to my friends. Any company or drawing I enter i give my spam address. That way i don’t have my inbox clogged by these spam emails.

Cheers

I’ve been getting at least one a day for the past couple of weeks too. I just mark it as spam and don’t open it. If it sounds to good to be true…

bettyrubleinspurs on 6 November, 2008 at 3:02 am #

Oh, yes, I, too am a multi bazillionaire! Especially from those folks in Nigeria. You might need to make a new e-mail address to get rid of those clowns.

Bono-The question was not that he signed up for it but how does he quit getting mailings from all these scams.
As far as I know there is no way to stop them only limit them as you have done.
I think Bono owes you an apology for calling you a moron.

OMG do not do anything. check all of your credit cards and banking accounts. this is a major scam that has been around since the late 80’s. never listen to ANY foreign lotteries.
contact your mail service (ex.fed ex) and tell them if you get this adress do not send it to my house

Every email that states you have won a lottery or there is money waiting for you is a scam. There will be a followup asking for a prepayment of some type of fee to receive the money. Haven’t you noticed that even though you have won 100 million your name appears nowhere in the email? It may not even contain your email address. If people were winning 100 million every day it would be on the news with pictures of the lucky people.

Unless you enter a lottery or contest, such as with one of the magazine companies, any notification is a scam. If you get 100 million you will not be notified by email.

You don’t have to ask this twice, we’ve ALL had the same problem, and you solve it by putting all this crap into spam, UNOPENED! Obviously, you are trying to answer them, so read what the experts have to say about spam:
SPAM
According to the anti-spam experts, we are seeing far more spam mails now than ever before. And the spammers are becoming more clever about getting past the spam filters. That’s why more spam is making it to the Inbox instead of going straight to the Bulk/Spam folder, and why some of your good mails are ending up in the Bulk/Spam folder. There are a few basic things we can all do to keep spam to a minimum…
1. Spam mails that go straight to the Bulk/Spam folder should be left there, unopened. You can empty that folder any time you want, but never NEVER open spam mails. DON’T try to unsubscribe from anything and DON’T click any links in those mails.
2. Spam mails that land in your Inbox should be marked as Spam so that they are moved to the Bulk/Spam folder and their addresses placed on the Blocked list. (Blocking an address prevents mails from being received from that address in the future.)
3. Any email that you are the least bit suspicious about should be deleted immediately. Don’t let curiosity get the better of you. Simply opening a spam email out of curiosity could alert the spammers that you have an active email address (they probably didn’t know it before), to which they will undoubtedly send TONS of spam mail in the future. Open emails ONLY from those you know and trust.

Lots of spammers have automated scripts that send emails out using a “dictionary attack”. This means their script just sends out tons of emails to various combinations of numbers and letters at different domains. Kind of like if you just started calling phone numbers starting with 100-100-0000 then 100-100-0001, etc. They don’t know what is a valid email address and what is not. When you reply to one (try to unsubscribe, or replying back telling them how you hate them), you are now confirming your email address is a real, live email address. They have special lists of those, because they know they’re guaranteed real. They then sell those lists to other spammers at a premium. Then you get more spam!

Mine are mostly for replica watches & \/1@gra. Just use your spam filter & never, NEVER open spam, opening it triggers a return receipt telling the spammers your addy is active so they will send more. If it reaches your inbox use the Spam button, this will add it to your blocked list & you won’t ever see anything from that addy again.

Here’s some more tips about spam
